Transparent Electrode
Observing discharge of fingers and hand with the transparent electrode

Plug in the cable of the transparent electrode into the red High Voltage Output jack on top of the unit (C)
If you are making an image of a specimen such as a leaf, metal object, etc., you must connect the supplied green ground wire to the black ground jack, located on the back of the unit near the DC input jacks. The other end should be connected to the object you are viewing.

Set Base frequency to 50-60K. Set intensity to 60%.

Turn down the lights in the room, only leaving on a small light that is sufficient to see what you are doing. If the room is too bright, it will be difficult to observe the discharge.

Place 4 or 5 fingertips on the glass near the center of the glass.
Push pulse button and watch closely as you adjust the fine frequency control up or down slightly. If there is no discharge visible, perform the following adjustments:
Adjust base frequency down or up to try to find the correct frequency while pressing the pulse button. The High Voltage output light, located on top of the unit, will grow brighter when the suitable frequency is approached. If no discharge of the corona can be seen from the fingers, then you should adjust the intensity to 80% and try adjusting the frequency again while pressing the pulse button. Take note of the frequency and intensity settings for future reference.

CAUTION! DO NOT ALLOW THE HIGH VOLTAGE CABLE CONNECTED TO THE HIGH VOLTAGE OUTPUT TO TOUCH ANY OTHER WIRES, METAL OR PEOPLE. THE VOLTAGE IS VERY HIGH AND CAN ACTUALLY GO THROUGH THE RUBBER INSULATION

HEAT CAN QUICKLY BUILD UP UNDER THE FINGERS OR HAND AND CAUSE SLIGHT BURNS. INSTRUCT THE SUBJECT TO REMOVE HIS HAND FROM THE PLATE IF IT IS TOO HOT, OR IF HE FEELS TOO MUCH DISCOMFORT.

Repeat the above steps using a full hand on the glass. One thing you will discover is that the hand needs to be held very FLAT and with VERY SOFT PRESSURE on the film to get a good discharge. The intensity should be set at 100%. It can be very tricky to find the right frequency, and to position the hand correctly. If the hand is held too hard against the glass, the body will absorb the power and very little discharge will be seen. The secret is to lay the hand very easy, but very flat on the glass, and not press too hard.

A normal camera or video camera can be used to record the image. Simply point the camera at the image on the opposite side of the glass as the subject, and photograph the discharge.

DO NOT TOUCH ANY METAL OR ANY OTHER PERSON WHILE TOUCHING THE ENERGIZED PLATE
